There has been a trend about Christian movies being removed from Netflix. But why is Netflix removing Christian movies? What I found out might surprise you.
Netflix is a global film platform where people discover and watch movies from different catalogs and in different languages, but you need to have a subscription to access full service functions.
As it appears, people from the secular, religious, and irreligious world subscribe to the platform and watch movies of their interest, and so do Christians. But it seems some, if not many Christians, have discovered that some movies they know were on the platform are nowhere to be found there.
So they assume that the operators of the platform have removed their Christian-themed or titled movies; therefore, the question, Why is Netflix removing Christian movies?, was asked. So let’s get to it.
Did Netflix remove Christian movies?
If people are trying to find out why Netflix removed Christian movies from the platform, the implication is that they removed Christian movies, but is that all there is? I don’t think so.

While Netflix operates as a subscription-based streaming platform where people subscribe monthly to watch movies, either on their TV or smartphones, it is also a policy-based library. What I mean is that they are factors that determine what is available and unavailable on the platform.
Take, for instance, you’re searching for a movie on the platform but couldn’t find it. The unavailability of the movie can be linked with country-based limitations or account profile limitations. By that I mean regional unavailability, the maturity level of your account, or even a title block on your profile can cause people to think a movie they thought was on the platform has been removed.
Hold on a second. What is this thing about maturity level? It seems Netflix has ratings for profiles, and depending on the score on the account, certain titles can be limited to the access of certain users. Otherwise, profile language and movie title’s language would be another cause of unavailable. But what does this have to do with Christian movies?
There are situations where movies are entirely removed from the platform, and that is not exclusive to but inclusive of Christian movies. So, the trend about Christian movies being removed from Netflix could just be an exaggeration of a norm. I hope you didn’t dislike that.
Why Is Netflix Removing Christian Movies?
According to Netflix’s Terms of Use, under Warranties and Limitations on Liability, a portion of it says and quotes, “The Netflix service is provided “as is” and without warranty or condition. In particular, our service may not be uninterrupted or error-free.”
I guess that is something to think about. But to deal with the specific question, Why is Netflix removing Christian movies? I should point out that TV Shows and movies available on Netflix are licensed and have expiring dates. When a movie’s license is expired and not renewed, the platform would have to remove those movies. But if they are renewed, people will still be able to access them.
Otherwise, what happened is that the people or companies providing the movies decided to leave the platform, discontinue their agreements, and remove their movies from the platform.
Either of those two are legitimate reasons why Netflix has removed, is removing, and will remove Christian movies, alongside other movies, from the platform. Otherwise, you could be experiencing some limitations while the movies you think have been removed are still available to other profiles on the platform.
Normally, Netflix should inform their customers in such cases that they are removing movies. So I was thinking I should travel to Wonderland on why people propagating the removal of Christian movies did not get that. I guess it’s a troll or an ignorance of what’s going on.
But if you want to find out how, according to Netflix, they display a “Last day to watch on Netflix” message on the details page of the movie for some seconds, as the title starts playing. Hmmm… That would mean that if you don’t watch the movie on the last day to see the notice before it is removed, you will be surprised to find it missing.
Well, you can always reach out to Netflix customer service in the case that you find out something unusual is going on or you need clarification on service and content availability. Let me know what you think.
