To begin with, let me say that I have been dealing with a little bit of Christmas and decided to talk about something random, and that’s how I got here.

As it appears, many Christians are motivated by the idea of influential personalities, either identifying as Christians or endorsing the religion called Christianity. And Taylor Swift is a very influential personality, which could be a reason why people are trying to find out if she’s a Christian.

But why Taylor Swift? Who is she, and what is her relationship with religion and Christianity, especially? Let’s get into it!

Is Taylor Swift a Christian?

You’ve probably considered the list above and realized that none of the songs have the words “Jesus” or “Christian” attached to them. But is Taylor Swift a Christian? The answer is a bit complicated, so let’s unrap it.

Taylor Swift’s songs like Would’ve, Could’ve, Should’ve reveal religious imagery and sentiments, suggesting someone was dealing with past experiences, hearty challenges, regrets, and a crisis of faith, or perhaps a deconstruction.

A portion of the lyrics of Would’ve, Could’ve, Should’ve said, and I quote,

All I used to do was pray.

Would’ve, could’ve, should’ve

If you’d never looked my way.

She pointed out that she would’ve remained on her knees and wouldn’t end up having a deal with the devil, relatively with an experience she had at 19. Then she referenced a God whose honest truth was pain is heaven, and as she grew, she became afraid of ghosts; the memories were hunting.

The song went on to reveal that she regretted the experience she had and thought if that didn’t happen, she would’ve been with the righteous. Who are the righteous? Well, one thing you can take from the lyrics is when she said, “God rest my soul; I miss who I used to be.” Who did she used to be? A righteous or a Christian?

Normally, we’re told Jesus is the answer, and if anyone is in Christ, he or she is a new creation with a brand-new life, but it doesn’t seem Taylor Swift buys the idea, though some would say she should’ve. Otherwise, she could’ve gotten over the past and would’ve moved on.

Again, is Taylor Swift a Christian? It depends on what people mean by Christian. If it’s about a profession of faith, Yes. But if it’s about following Jesus Christ according to the scriptures, probably not.

She could be a believer, but it says nothing about the God she refers to as being the Christian God. Alas, some Christians already think she isn’t a Christian, pointing out things that are wrong with her songs, her dress, and her lifestyle.

Perhaps a question to consider is Whether Taylor Swift cares about being a Christian or religious or what you think of her. Feel free to share your thoughts.
